Artist Statement
I’m Wendy Puah, a visual artist and designer working with charcoal, ink, and film photography. Although my major is in Design, I often return to traditional materials to explore ideas in a more personal and emotional way. My work is quiet and reflective, centered on memory, nostalgia, and the beauty in everyday details. I began with drawing cartoons as a kid, and that love of storytelling has stayed with me. Over time, I developed a deeper interest in still life, personal imagery, and visual composition — whether through a pencil or a camera lens. Film photography, especially, allows me to slow down and preserve small moments with care and intention.
Even when I’m not working digitally, my design background shapes how I think about balance, emotion, and visual storytelling. I’m inspired by art movements like Impressionism and Symbolism, which express inner life through mood and composition. Through both design and traditional media, my goal is to create visual experiences that feel quiet but meaningful
— like small memories that stay with you.
